The Cormier Hit, 10 Months Later

Atlanta Thrashers prospect Patrice Cormier received an absolute discharge on Tuesday after pleading guilty to an assault charge resulting from the above hit, which dates back to January 2010. During his time with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, he laid out the Quebec Remparts' Mikael Tam. A New Jersey Devils draftee at the time of the hit, he was eventually sent to Atlanta in the Ilya Kovalchuk deal. Methinks one had something to do with the other. With the absolute discharge, he will have no criminal record, despite having admitted to doing something criminal. Gotta love the Canadian justice system, eh?
